5 minute Friday escape

Need a little five-minute Friday escape, my friend?

Well now you can take one with our favorite friends that we don't actually know.

(You won't want to spoil this escape with people yelling or fighting or playing lightsabers in the background. That may ruin it. So take the laptop into a room with a door that locks. It's OK. It's only 5 minutes. What's the worst that can happen in 5 minutes? Oh yeah, that. Well, it's worth the risk.)

You know, this makes me so very happy.

So happy that I can forgive his wearing of shirts with a mandarin collar.

This is just the escape I needed today.

{Thanks Jules. You know what we like over here.}

And P.S. We need a new Cake & Cotton playlist. Mixpod. Please. Let's do it. This song first.

Balemtimes Playlist

Oh my goodness. I made the best Balentimes mix last night for my honey and my special "at home" Valentine's date night.

I put the songs on our new mixpod! Press play!

And as for the first one, here's my disclaimer:

I have never liked country.
I have never liked whiskey.
I do not advocate smoking.
But I think this is the most beautiful song ever right now.
Oh my goodness. Can I say that again?
It's my complete favorite. You need to listen to it over and over a few times.
I discovered it because my little 8-yr old friend really, really, really loves listenting to the Taylor Swift Pandora station. And they throw some country into that one. I don't hate it, really.

But Faith Hill's voice on this song mixed with her real life husband's!!??  Whatintheworld.

All these songs are favorites of mine, actually, and I think completely romantic.

OK, I know your idea of romantic is more along the lines of Ella Fitzgerald and "The Very Thought of You." I love those too. But these modern love songs are just so ME. After Balentimes season, we can change it, k?

Turn it on in the background of your romantic night, or just dream about your favorite moments with your sweetie.

Happy Valentine's, friend!

Band you gotta hear

Hey, just had to share - this is my husbands new favorite band; he brought me home the CD saying I'd love it. Yep, I do. {Thanks for knowing me, lover o' mine.}

They're called The Civil Wars.

Here's a video of one of their most popular songs. This one was featured on a season finale of a special little show called Grey's Anatomy. I'm not sure how he knows, but my husband said after it ran on the show, 500,000 people googled the song the next day.

That's a lot of love. {Press pause on the mixpod to the left and listen to this.}

Kevin should have just written this post.

He thinks this girl's voice reminds him of your sister, Grace. Don't you think she and her special man would be amazing at singing these songs?? (I'd link her to her own video singing, but which one??)

Ok, one more video. You're gonna laugh. A new take on your oldie favorite.

Sweet huh?

a vow

in light of our conversation over my kitchen table this morning
involving a vow to learn these lovely instruments,
i think you should see this.
it is really so beautiful.

i can totally picture us doing it!
it is so dramatic and romantic.
and we both have streaks of both those qualities, right?

so in three years.
ella will be in first grade.
nate will be in 3rd (is that right? crazy!)
we will learn these instruments and become another level of a duet.
shauna reed on the viola.
leslie padgett on the cello.
tidbit on the side lines.
cake and cotton waiting for a new post.

there.
sound good?
